Melksham comic con has announced the panels that will run over the weekend. There’s lots of cool talks by even cooler people. I’ll be on some panels too! You can see a full list here and can buy your tickets here.
Sat 30th Aug (Council Room)
1PM – THE WRITING ROOM

Montynero, Mike Garley, John-Paul Bove, and Andy Lanning

How do you write for comics? How do you come up with new ideas? What about collaborative works? Join us for a session with some of the most talented writers in the industry today, and find out more about what they do, how they do it, and what’s involved in writing for, and creating some of the historical storylines we have in our collections!

3PM – COMICS AND TELEVISION

Mike Garley and Andrew Wildman

Many movies these days evolve from iconic stories in comic books. But what about the small screen? Smallville, The Walking Dead, Arrow, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and so on. Do they bring more people to comic shops, picking up books? Or are the shows for the existing comic fans?  What about going the other way? TV shows after cancellation can carry on in comic books, keeping a universe open for the fans – Buffy is now on Season 10, Smallville Season 11 can be found on the shelves of comic stores.
There’s also comic creators who work with television shows, so there are crossovers everywhere!
Join us for a discussion about how television and comic books work together to keep fandom alive!
 Sun 31st Aug (Committee Room)
11:30AM - CHILDREN’S COMICS

Mike Garley and Jess Bradley

What makes a good children’s comic? Are they all for children? How do you get kids engaged and interested in comic books? Join us for a chat about why getting kids to enjoy reading is so important!
12:30PM – CREATOR-OWNED COMICS

Mike Garley, Jon Lock, Mike Dowling
 and Conor Boyle

Our panel of comic creators will discuss a range of subjects including how they come up with their ideas, where they find collaborators, how they pitch and market their comics, as well as discussing all the hidden trials and tribulations that go with creator-owned comics.

This wide-ranging panel promises to be fun and informative and will give aspiring creators and fans a great behind the scenes view of creating comics.

The Kill Screen issue #2 - Cascade - Preview

The Kill Screen is such a large concept that we decided quite early on that it would be cool to have a little story before the main story to help introduce the world of The Kill Screen. We used the intro in issue 1 (ILOVEYOU) to help further that particular story, as we wanted to really concentrate on telling what we hoped would be a solid first issue.

With issue 2 we just wanted to have a bit of fun with the world and show a bit more of the event that shaped it, so we decided to have a not-too-subtle nod to the Amazon acquisition of Comixology - although unfortunately the conversation could easily apply to pretty much any conglomerate - with a Mario Kart inspired twist.

Mike Stock does a great job homaging MK with the font for the Boom, and Josh Sherwell packs the double page spread full of nods to computer and computer game errors.

Here is our incredible alternative cover for issue #1 of The Kill Screen, illustrated by the omni-talented Ian Churchill!
I love this cover. A LOT. Ian’s done an amazing job of combining various elements of our story in an incredibly dynamic cover. He’s incredible and I feel super honoured to have his artwork gracing the cover of me and Josh’s book.
Hope you guys like it. Although I don’t see how you couldn’t.

Here’s the first teaser for The Kill Screen #2 by me, Josh Sherwell, and Mike Stock. Lots of people asked if we’d see Chris again after the climactic end to issue one, hopefully this will answer that.

Here’s a sneak peek at a panel from Eponymous: Safer Shores, which is written by me, illustrated by the incredible Martin Simmonds and lettered by Mike Stock.
Martin really knocked this one out of the park. And then he blew the park up. There was no survivors…
You can pick it up here: VS Comics #10
Or grab the first TPB from here: Eponymous #1

NEW COMIC! Here’s a sneak peek at my brand new comic (with my talented artistic collaborator Josh Sherwell)  that will be coming out in 2014. I am SO excited about this comic, and working with Josh is going to be a lot of fun (not for him obviously). I’ll post more about the comic soon.

K-Shop // Editor // Comic
I’ll be editing a comic to accompany White Lantern Film’s latest feature: K-Shop, which they describe as a Sweeney Todd inspired thriller set in a British kebab shop plagued by binge drinking culture. I’ll be working with writer/director Dan Pringle, and long-time collaborator, superstar-artist Martin Simmonds, to bring an all-new story to life set within the world of K-Shop.
K-Shop is currently on Kickstarter and you can support the project by following the link here

Cat and Meringue // Foreword // Comic
I had the absolute honour of writing the foreword for Nich Angell’s 250 page hardcover Cat and Meringue collection. The book is an A4 beast and deserves to be on EVERYONE’S bookshelf!

Adventure Time! I had the pleasure of writing an illustrated story for the lovely people at Titan. You can, and should, pick up your copy on the 8th of August from Titan and all good store… And probably quite a few of the rubbish ones too.
